The Alert2 manoverboard notification system consists of a water activated AT100 transmitter and a vessel based AR100 receiver. The AT100 contains a UHF radio transmitter designed to trigger the AR100 On-board Receiver. The only maintenance is a simple battery replacement once a year. This system provides a one mile maximum range and operating life of a minimum of three hours at -20°C.
We like the Alert2 system for several reasons:
• It is a dedicated crew overboard alarm
• It starts transmitting when you fall overboard. No false alarms just from walking down the dock
• It will direct you to the victim in the water (with the optional DF)
• It requires minimum maintenance
• It is made in the USA
Currently crew overboard alarms come in two flavors. The first, like the Alert, starts transmitting when the unit is immersed in water for several seconds. The second transmits continuously and the alarm is triggered when the transmission is broken. With this second type you will have problems if your vessel is made from steel or aluminum or if you are just wearing the transmitter and walk down the dock. On a smaller open boat this may be all you need but we feel that the Alert system offers a more robust solution.
